Indiana Jones And The Traveling Typefaces of Terror

Mark Simonson has a very interesting analysis on the typefaces in the Indiana Jones map montage sequences…ok who am i kidding, its completely dorky and nerdy in every way, but its a graphic design thing in relation to one of the greatest film franchises of all time. An excerpt from his blog…

Whenever Indy is traveling great distances, which happens in all the films, there is a montage of the airplane or boat superimposed over an animated map showing the route. It’s an old-fashioned convention, an homage to the movies of the Thirties and Forties. Unfortunately, the typefaces would be more at home a few decades later.

I’ve always loved these sequences in the films so its always fun to read stuff about it.
